ISL 2024-25: Punjab FC writes to AIFF to review referee decisions in match against NorthEast United

Punjab FC has written a strong letter to chief refereeing officer of AIFF, Trevor Kettle to review the referees decisions that impacted the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 match against NorthEast United and will also impact the next match against Mumbai City FC in New Delhi.

The off-side circumstances leading to the goal scored by NEUFC, the decisions that led to the sending off of Head Coach Panagiotis Dilmperis are the main topics that have been asked to review by the Mohali-based outfit.

The yellow card given to Nikhil Prabhu, which has led to his suspension for the next match and the first yellow card given to Khaimingthang Lhungdim because of dissent is also mentioned in the letter.

The club said that it is “deeply concerned about recurring instances of questionable decisions during matches, which undermine the significant investments made by clubs”.

PFC has also advocated for the implementation of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), which is essential to ensure transparency and consistency in officiating.

Punjab FC is the latest ISL club raise similar concerns, it urges the AIFF and ISL to address these issues promptly and take collective action to safeguard the interests of all clubs and uphold fair play.

The ongoing ISL 2024-25 season has been marred by several controversial decisions taken by officials and have irked fanbases and club officials alike. Several clubs have already expressed their concerns to ISL and AIFF.

Last night’s Kolkata Derby between Mohun Bagan Super Giant and East Bengal FC has also seen a similar disputed call taken by the referee.
