Irwansyah Adi Pratama: All you need to know about new Indian women’s singles badminton coach

Former Indonesian shuttler and renowned coach Irwansyah Adi Pratama has taken charge of the Indian women’s singles players and been coaching PV Sindhu and others at the national camp in Bengaluru this month.

Irwansyah, a long-term men’s singles head coach of Indonesia, is credited for the rise of former Asian champion Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and reigning All England champion Jonatan Christie.

Despite high expectations for these two at the Paris 2024 Olympics, the Indonesian men’s singles campaign faced significant challenges.

Ginting was unable to advance from the group stage after a loss to Toma Junior Popov, while third-seeded Christie also suffered an early exit, defeated by Lakshya Sen.

However, 2024 also witnessed some notable achievements for these prominent Indonesian singles players.

His contract with Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) ended in December and the two parted ways.

In an recent Interview with the Indonesian media outlet Okezone, Irwansyah wrote via WhatsApp, “I have accepted the offer from India. I wanted to try a new challenge and seek new experience living abroad with my wife and Child”.

This will be Irwansyah’s first coaching stint outside his native country.

In India, Irwansyah has replaced compatriot Agus Dwi Santoso.
