Vaadivaasal: Suriya, Vetrimaaran’s film back in business!

Vaadivaasal: Suriya, Vetrimaaran’s film back in business!

Vaadivaasal is a long delayed project of actor Suriya’s and director Vetrimaaran’s. The movie produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu’s V Creations is currently back in business, as the producer took to the X platform to send a new still with his collaborators on Wednesday, marking ‘Maatu Pongal’, the day of Pongal festivities dedicated to celebrating cattle.

“Vaadivaasal opens for the world to worship”, wrote Thanu on X. Vaadivaasal is a film set against the backdrop of Jallikattu, a popular bull taming sport in Tamil Nadu. Vaadivaasal refers the place where bulls are released during this spectacle sport, and Thanu’s caption is also a metaphorical nod to the world celebrating Mattu Pongal today.

While there are no explicit Vaadivaasal updates, Vetrimaaran who is fresh off his seventh full length feature film release, has announced a new movie with Dhanush as his ninth venture. This has given hope for Suriya fans that  Vaadivaasal indeed has not been shelved.

Vaadivaasal is based on a 1940 novella by writer CS Chellapa, which marked the first time that the traditional sport of ‘Jallikattu’ was highlighted in Tamil modern literature. The movie was first officially announced in 2019, and its cast and crew revealed in 2020.
