ISL 2024-25: Jamshedpur FC eyes to close gap as it welcomes table-topper Mohun Bagan

Jamshedpur FC will host league leader Mohun Bagan Super Giant at the JRD Tata Sports Complex on January 21, Friday, in the Indian Super League (ISL).

Jamshedpur FC currently sits second in the standings with 27 points from 14 matches, while Mohun Bagan SG leads the table with 35 points from 15 matches. With a game in hand over Mohun Bagan, the Men of Steel have the opportunity to close the gap with a win in this crucial fixture.

The last time these two sides faced off in Kolkata, Mohun Bagan clinched a dominant 3-0 victory.

Head coach Khalid Jamil expressed confidence in his team’s ability to rise to the occasion. “Playing at home is always special, and we are aiming for three points in front of our fans. If we maintain our focus and work as a team, we can achieve our goals,” Jamil said.

Striker Javier Siverio, who has been instrumental in Jamshedpur’s recent success, echoed similar sentiments. “We’re taking it game by game, step by step. The team has been doing an amazing job, and being among the top teams is a great feeling,” he said.

While Jamshedpur’s defensive unit has shown improvement in recent matches, it will need to be at its best to counter Mohun Bagan’s potent attacking lineup, which includes top performers like Dimitri Petratos and Manvir Singh.

Additionally, Mohun Bagan’s solid defence, led by its formidable foreign centre-backs, will make it a challenge for Jamshedpur’s forwards to break through.
