Rohit Sharma confirms he’ll play in Mumbai’s upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir

India captain Rohit Sharma confirmed that he will feature in Mumbai’s next Ranji Trophy fixture against Jammu and Kashmir, beginning on January 23 at the MCA-BKC ground.

“I will (play),” Rohit said on Saturday.

The decision comes in the wake of the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s feelers to all the cricketers to make the best effort to play in the remaining domestic first-class season.

Earlier this week, Rohit had a 40-minute session with the Mumbai Ranji Trophy squad at the Wankhede Stadium, in an indication that he could be available for Mumbai’s crucial fixture.

Rohit’s last Ranji appearance was in November 2015, and with a slump in form, the seasoned campaigner got into a match simulation during the training session and faced the Mumbai fast bowlers and spinners, pairing with Ajinkya Rahane.

While the focus is on Rohit, sources indicate that Yashasvi Jaiswal has already informed coach Omkar Salvi about his availability, even though Sarfaraz Khan is likely to miss out on the game against Jammu and Kashmir after suffering an injury during a practice session in Australia.
