Indonesia Masters 2025: Satwik-Chirag, Tanisha-Ashwini through to second round

India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty entered the second round of the USD 475,000 Indonesia Masters super 500 badminton with a straight-game win against Chinese Taipei’s Chen Zhi Ray and Lin Yu Chieh on Tuesday.

The Asian Games gold medallist duo, who reached semifinals at the Malaysia Super 1000 and India Super 750, defeated the Taiwanese duo, 21-16, 21-15 in their opening match.

In the women’s doubles event, world no 19 duo of Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa dominated over the Thai pair of Ornnicha Jongsathapornparn and Sukitta Suwachai 21-6, 21-14 in the opening round.

While Satwik-Chirag will face the winner of the match between Indonesia’s Raymond Inra and Patra Harapan Rindorindo and Thailand’s Kittinupong Kedren and Dechapol Puavaranukroh in the next round, Ashwini and Tanisha will take on Malaysia’s Pei Kee Go and Mei Xing Teoh.

The men’s singles qualifying saw Ayush Shetty, Odisha Masters 2023 runner-up, beat compatriot Kidambi Srikanth 21-7, 21-15, while Tanya Hemanth fought a tough battle with a 16-21, 21-17, 21-15 scoreline to edge past Chinese Taipei’s Ciou-Tong to reach the main draw.

Ayush will face top seed China’s Shi Yu Qi in the main draw, while Tanya will meet Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon.
