Dhruva Natchathiram release shattered me – Gautham Menon

Dhruva Natchathiram release shattered me – Gautham Menon

Gautham Vasudev Menon’s Dhruva Natchathiram is one movie that the filmmaker has always struggled with. Right from its inception in 2013 when Suriya was supposed to do the film, to its release several years later with actor Vikram, Gautham Menon has struggled to make things happen. As of 2025, Dhruva Natchathiram remains unreleased, and the director has opened up on how this shattered him on the inside.

Dhruva Natchathiram with Vikram in the lead came closest to release in 2023, when the movie was scheduled to hit theater screens on November 24, 2023. But the director with a debt of Rs 64 Cr. faced two cases going against Dhruva Natchathiram’s release; The Madras High Court ordered Gautham Menon to pay up Rs. 2 Cr. towards All In Pictures before 10: 30 AM on November 24 for Dhruva Natchathiram to hit theater screens.

Gautham Menon has now revealed what he felt at that point in time. “I was shattered honestly. I don’t want to sound dramatic but I was (shattered), and that’s why there’s a solid support system who took care of that. There is a very very small team that works with me, they were there throughout and people at home, my wife who normally never even comes to where I am, at work, and meetings and stuff, she was just there. I turn around and see she was just sitting there not connected with the meeting but just to make sure I was okay..Family sort of regrouped, everybody tried to see if they can help which was a big thing.. That kind of took care of me”, told Gautham Menon in an interview with Baradwaj Rangan.

Gautham Menon is currently gearing up for the release of a Malayalam film titled Dominic And The Ladies’ Purse with Mammootty in the lead. The movie hits theater screens on January 23, 2025 i.e. tomorrow. The director has said that this movie happening also helped him overcome the disappointment he faced with Dhruva Natchathiram‘s release.

The filmmaker in another interview with YouTuber Madan Gowri also revealed the Tamil film industry’s reaction to Dhruva Natchathiram‘s release postponement in 2023. “nobody really cared enough to talk to me about it. Not that I expect them to either, but that’s the truth of things. It is not an industry of bonhomie. Even when a film succeeds, people are just intrigued, and not happy. (producer) Thanu sir is the only person who constantly enquires about Dhruva Natchathiram. Then, there is (director) Lingusamy, who tried to do what he can..they have their own issues, and I understand.””
