Actress Devayani’s Journey from Kadhal Kottai to Short Film Awards
“Kaikkutty Rani,” a short film produced and directed by actress Devayani, explores the emotions of children. Spanning 20 minutes, the film focuses on the struggles faced by a young girl who has lost her mother and whose father works far from home. The emotional narrative has won the Best Children’s Short Film award at the 17th Jaipur International Film Festival.
Devayani expressed her joy and pride, stating that despite acting in over 100 films in her 30-year career, this is the first time a project she directed and produced has received international recognition. Based on her personal life experiences, the story centers on the bond between a father and daughter.
Elaborating on the filmmaking process, Devayani noted her initial apprehensions but highlighted how the crew worked harmoniously. Esteemed contributors like Ilaiyaraaja (music), Rajan Miriyala (cinematography), and P. Lenin (editing) added depth to the project. Niharika V.K. and Naveen N. delivered exceptional performances.
Devayani attributes the success of the film to meticulous planning, dedication, and the emotional connection it creates within its brief runtime. She also emphasized her belief in effective, patient parenting and shared inspiring examples from her family, suggesting that nurturing children from a young age ensures a brighter future.
She fondly reminisced about her teaching profession, considering it meaningful and fulfilling, and expressed her pride in past iconic roles like Kamali from “Kadhal Kottai,” which holds a special place in her heart.
