India squad announced for Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championship: Lakshya, Sindhu headline list

Two-time Olympic medallist P.V. Sindhu and Paris Olympics semifinalist Lakshya Sen will lead a 14-member Indian team at the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships, scheduled to take place in Qingdao, China, from February 11 to 16, 2025.

In the previous edition, held in Dubai in 2023, India secured a bronze medal. The national selectors prioritised players’ world rankings and current form when finalising the squad. H.S. Prannoy and Malvika Bansod have been selected as the second men’s and women’s singles players, respectively.

“The Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships is a prestigious event that tests the depth and quality of teams. We performed well by winning the bronze medal two years ago, but our goal this year is to reach the final. From there, anything is possible, and we will give it our all,” said Sanjay Mishra, secretary general of the Badminton Association of India.

India also boasts a strong doubles line-up, led by the former world number one pairing of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty. The women’s doubles responsibilities will be handled by either Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly or Olympians Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto.

Tanisha will also partner Dhruv Kapila in the mixed doubles, while Sathish Kumar K and Adya Variyath will form the second mixed doubles pairing in the squad.

Men: Lakshya Sen, H.S. Prannoy, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty, Dhruv Kapila, MR Arjun, Sathish Kumar K

Women: P.V. Sindhu, Malvika Bansod, Gayatri Gopichand, Treesa Jolly, Ashwini Ponnappa, Tanisha Crasto, Adya Variyath
