I Neglected My Children Because I Was Focused on Music: Ilayaraja’s Heartfelt Anguish

Renowned composer Ilayaraja recently opened up about a deep personal regret following the passing of his daughter Bhavatharini on January 25th last year due to ill health. Reflecting on the loss, Ilayaraja expressed his feelings of sorrow and remorse through an emotional post on his social media.

In his message, he wrote:

“The day my dear daughter Bhavatharini left us is a pain that still weighs heavily on me. It was only after losing her that I truly realized the immense love and bond she had for me. My dedication to music, which consumed most of my life, unfortunately led me to neglect my children. This realization now deeply pains me.”

Ilayaraja also shared how music, which brings comfort to countless others, serves as a small solace to him during this difficult time. He announced plans to honor his late daughter by organizing a memorial program on February 12th, which coincides with Bhavatharini’s birthday.

He extended an invitation to musicians to join the memorial event, saying, “I pray to God that the soul of my beloved daughter Bhavatharini may rest in peace.”

Ilayaraja’s heartfelt words serve as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices often made in the pursuit of passion and the importance of cherishing time with loved ones.
