Tendulkar salutes J&K’s historic Ranji triumph over Mumbai, Rohit captivates fans despite poor outing
As Jammu and Kashmir cricketers celebrated their historic victory against Mumbai, Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar walked up to the team manager and congratulated the side for an incredible win against the domestic giant, after a decade.
Tendulkar, who was training at the MCA-BKC club ahead of a tournament involving former cricketers, was joined in by former India international Irfan Pathan, who was the mentor of the J&K side a few years ago.
During his tenure at J&K, Pathan played a significant role in developing youngsters like Abdul Samad and Umran Malik, who gradually made it big at the domestic and international level.
“To beat star-studded Ranji champion Mumbai in their den is no mean achievement. Kudos to the J&K team, coaching and support staff for scripting history. God of cricket Tendulkar walked up to our manager to congratulate the team,” JKCA administrator Brig. Anil Gupta said.
Leading the points table, J&K will play Baroda in the last group league fixture, next week.
A large number of spectators turned up at the MCA-BKC ground over the last couple of days to watch India captain Rohit Sharma in action.
Though he had a forgettable outing for Mumbai, his fans chanted ‘Mumbai chya Raja, Rohit Sharma’ every time they could spot him on the field. Rohit, too, obliged fans with autographs and selfies.
On Saturday, a fan breached the security at the venue in an attempt to meet Rohit. He sprinted towards the star cricketer to touch his feet. Before the security personnel took him off the ground, the fan managed to have a quick chat with Rohit.
