SA20 2025: Paarl Royals becomes first team to bowl 20 overs of spin in T20s
Paarl Royals became the first team to bowl 20 overs of spin during the SA20 contest against the Pretoria Capitals in Paarl on Saturday.
The David Miller-led side utilised five spinners in the second innings of the match at Boland Park to restrict the opposition to 129 for seven in its chase of 140.
Dayyaan Galiem was the lone medium-pace option in the lineup but wasn’t called up to bowl an over as Miller went all in with spin. Bjorn Fortuin, Mujeeb ur Rahman and Joe Root each picked two wickets each to choke the Capitals in the chase.
In the first essay, a 78-run knock from Root and a late blast by skipper Miller helped the Royals post 140. Spinner Senuran Muthusamy was the pick of the Capitals bowlers, picking up one for 15 in his four over spell.
With the win, the Royals extended its lead atop the standings while the Capitals remained fifth, a point above bottom-placed Durban Super Giants.
