Earlier, after electing to bat, England was off to a strong start. However, after a 37-run opening stand between Davina Perrin and Jemima Spence, England lost two quick wickets. Perrin and captain Abi Norgrove put on 44 runs for the third wicket to revive the innnings. With England coasting at 81 for two, India’s spin trio of Aayushi Shukla, Parunika Sisodia and Vaishnavi Sharma wreaked havoc. They picked six wickets for 11 runs to reduce England to 92 for eight by the 16th over.
With just 113 for eight on the board in 20 overs, defending the small total was always going to be an uphill task against the defending champion.
India and England had faced off in the final of the inaugural ICC Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup in 2023. The Shafali Verma-led Indian team clinched the title after winning the summit clash by seven wickets.
This time around, India is set to face South Africa in the final, scheduled to be held on Sunday at the same venue. Earlier in the day, South Africa had beaten Australia by five wickets in the first semifinal.
