ISL 2024-25: Alberto Noguera double helps Bengaluru FC thrash Jamshedpur FC 3-0

There was relief in a beleaguered Bengaluru FC camp as the side recorded a 3-0 win over Jamshedpur FC in their Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 clash at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium here on Sunday.

A brace from Alberto Noguera and an Edgar Mendez strike helped BFC break a six-game winless streak. BFC (31 points) moved up to fourth on the points table, and reinvigorated the push for a playoff spot.

The fire to snap out of a bad run was apparent early, as the home team created chances aplenty. Mendez was left alone with the JFC goalkeeper, but a weak side-footed shot was not up to finishing standard.

Sunil Chhetri then stepped up to the penalty spot, a result of Sourav Das bringing down Suresh Wangjam. It took an extraordinary save from Albino Gomes to deny Chhetri.

Mendez managed to put BFC on the scoresheet just before half-time. The Spanish striker pressed a drop-ball that Pratik Chaudhari failed to clear, and slotted it home with minimal fuss.

BFC added another through a Alberto Noguera free-kick. Noguera floated it into the box from way out, and was surprised to see the ball sneak into the back of the net. The JFC defence was caught napping, distracted by BFC defender Rahul Bheke’s header attempt. Bheke made no contact, even as he gestured to lay claim on the goal.

Noguera put the game to bed with his second late in the match.

For the first time this season, BFC goalkeeper Lalthuammawia Ralte earned a start ahead of Gurpreet Singh Sandhu.
