Ranji Trophy Quarterfinals HIGHLIGHTS, Day 5: Kerala beats J&K via first innings lead to qualify; Mumbai, Vidarbha, Gujarat advance to semis
Vidarbha vs Mumbai in Nagpur | Gujarat vs Kerala in Ahmedabad
Both the matches will start on February 17
And they have done it! Kerala beats Jammu and Kashmir via first innings lead and will enter the semifinal phase for the second-ever time in the history of the competition. They last time it qualified was during the 2018/19 season, where it lost to Vidarbha
With just two overs left for the day, there’s nothing much J&K can do apart from delaying the inevitability. Kerala’s resistance, alothough agonisingly slow, has pretty much done the trick here. Azharuddeen and Nizar will most probably seal things here
Azharuddeen brings up the 100 partnership with Nizar with a four through covers and follows it up with yet another boundary in the same over. Their stand is now worth 106. KER 286/6
Azharuddeen and Nizar are still going strong for Kerala as they’ve added 86 runs in 193 deliveries. If the trend continues and Kerala manages to draw the game, it will qualify for the semifinal because of the first innings lead of one run! KER 269/6, needs 130 runs to win
Azharuddeen and Nizar have added 52 runs for the seventh wicket. Kerala is now 232/6 and needs 183 runs to win
The game resumes after tea break. Abid starts off the proceedings with the ball with Azharuddeen (20 runs off 40 balls) on strike
Azharuddeen and Nizar have extended their partnership to 36 off 94 balls, with Kerala needing 183 runs to win.
J&K loses a review. Nabi pitched one on the fifth stump line and angled it in towards Nizar, who tired to block and got hit on his pads. The umpire throught otherwise and Dogra went for the review. Replays made it clear that the ball took a slight deflection off Nizar’s bat before hitting the pads
The 200 is up for Kerala as Nizar takes a single., The partnership beween Nizar and Azharuddeen is now worth 20 off 58 deliveries
J&K takes the second new ball with Abid bowling his 15th over. Azharuddeen and Nizar are in the middle for Kerala, with 207 more runs required to win. Paras Dogra has gone with an ultra-attacking field set with two slips, a short leg and a silly point in place
Aditya Sarwate has to walk back! Abid Mushtaq picks up his second wicket. Sarwate’s attempted sweep went straight into the hands Umar Nazir, the tallest fielder out there, at short fine. J&K now needs just four wickets to seal the deal
Another one bites the dust! Abid dismisses Jalaj Saxena, who finds Vivrant Sharma at first slip. Salman Nizar, who scored a century in the first innings, is in at seven
Another wicket for J&K as Sahil picks up his second. Sachin Baby departs for a 162-ball 48. Brilliant delivery, pitched straight, turning away from Sachin, who tried to block but it took an outside edge and went into the hands of Kanhaiya Wadhawan behind the stumps. Aditya Sarwate is the next batter in. Sarwate is off the mark with a four off Sahil’s final delivery. KER 169/4, needs 236 to win
Abid Mushtaq bowls an one-run over post lunch. KER 147/3, needs 252 runs to win
The third ODI between India and England will begin at 1:30pm and we will be bringing you real time updates. You can follow our blog by clicking the link below:
With Sachin Baby and new-batter Jalaj Saxena in the middle, Kerala still needs 253 to win with seven wickets in hand. The first session has pretty much been uneventful apart from the Khajuria stunner. The session saw 31 overs, 46 runs and a wicket.
KER 146/3, needs 253 to win
WHAT A CATCH FROM SHUBHAM KHAJURIA! Sahil strikes! Chandran tries to block on the front foot as Sahil bowls a flighted delivery. The ball brushes past his inside edge, takes a deflection off his pads and went towards Khajuria at short leg, who dives to his right to complete a superb reactionary catch. Chandran departs for a 183-ball 48.
The partnership between Sachin and Chandran is now worth 57… in 253 deliveries. Paras Dogra is doing everything in terms of bowling change but none of his bowlers have been able to produce anything remotely significant apart from an LBW shout at Sachin a few overs earlier. KER 127/2, needs 272 to win
Chandran and Sachin have added 51 runs but have taken 206 balls to reach there. Kerala, which started the day at 100/2, has managed just 22 runs since start of day’s play!
The Kerala batters are taking things slow, keeping in mind the one-run lead in the first innings. They’ve scored just a solitary run in the last four overs. The laid-back approach might prove detrimental if they’re unable to see the day through
Sachin gets a reprieve at the non-striker’s end. Chandran drove the ball right back at Yudhvir, who made contact with it before it hit the stumps. But Sachin grounded his bat moments before the ball ricocheted back on to the stumps. KER 113/2, needs 286 to win
After losing two wickets within a span of six overs, Chandran and Sachin have stiched a slow and steady 143-ball 41-run partnership. Kerala needs 288 runs to win with eight wickets in hand, and the batters in the middle would think to step on the gas pedal and seal the game as soon as possible
With Akshay Chandran and Sachin Baby in the middle, Kerala needs 292 more runs to win and advance to the semifinals.
Good morning! Three teams— Mumbai, Vidarbha and Gujarat— have already qualified for the semifinals and it’s just the Kerala vs Jammu and Kashmir match that remains today. Kerala needs 299 runs to win with eight wickets in hand.
