Hardik gets going now. He smokes Rashid over deep extra cover for a 98-metre six. He goes for it again. This time the connection isn’t that great. But it is still good enough to clear the long-off fielder.
But Rashid has the last laugh. He lures Hardik forward before sliding it past the bat and crashing it onto the stumps.
Hardik Pandya b Rashid 17 (9b 0x4 2×6)
IND 289/5 in 41 overs
Rahul and Hardik out in the middle as the Indian innings head into the death overs. Back of a length from Atkinson and Rahul slices it deftly past point for a four.

He gets to his 50 in 51 balls.
Liam Livingstone into the attack and it is going to be spin from both ends. Just three singles from the over. Gill looked a bit circumspect while defending in this over.
Adil Rashid into the attack. LBW appeal against Kohli and not given. England reviews after some deliberation. This could have been close if the ball was not pitching outside leg-stump. Kohli will breathe a sigh of relief. Excellent start for Rashid with just one run coming from it. Time for a drinks break.

England wins the toss and elects to bowl. One change for England, with Tom Banton coming in for Jamie Overton.
This one is right in the centre, 66m to the left and right and 74m straight down the ground. This is the same pitch used for the World Cup final, black soil pitch. It played slower in the first half and better for batting in the second half. The hessian has just come off so it’s a bit damp but there is still time left before play starts it should dry out. There are some cracks that could keep the bowlers interested. Looks like a bowl first wicket. One of those pitch where if a batter gets in he can score but it might not be easy for the new comer. Dew is a concern, there was a lot of dew last night.

The team that has won the toss has gone on to win the match 18 times out of the 31 matches held here. However, in the last 10 ODIs at the venue, the team losing the toss has won six games. Thus, the flip of the coin is unlikely to play a crucial role in determining the outcome of the match.
However, as there is always a chance of dew setting in during the second innings, teams have opted to chase in seven of the last 10 ODIs held at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Moreover, four of the last five ODIs here have been won by the team batting second.
India Predicted XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill (vc), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (wk), Hardik Pandya, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Mohammed Shami, Varun Chakaravarthy, Harshit Rana.
England Predicted XI: Ben Duckett, Philip Salt (wk), Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler (c), Liam Livingstone, Tom Banton, Jamie Overton, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Saqib Mahmood.
England opener Ben Duckett said on Tuesday even a 3-0 one-day series loss in India won’t affect the team’s morale because they are focused on winning the Champions Trophy title.
“We have come here for one thing and that is to win the Champions Trophy,” said Duckett.
“We still believe we can do that. It’ll be completely different conditions, all different teams we are playing against.”
