Retro Turns a Profit: Rs. 235 Crore from Box-Office & Other Sales

It was officially announced on Sunday that Tamil film Retro starring Suriya in the lead has grossed a total of Rs. 235 Cr. from theatrical and non-theatrical collections. Retro released in theaters on May 1, 2025, and is currently headed towards completing 3 weeks of run in movie theaters.

At this time, producers 2D Entertainment, Stone Bench Films, and Tamil Nadu distributor Sakthi Film Factory released the film’s total collection till May 18, which suggests that Retro is a profitable film for the stake-holders.

It is worth mentioning here that Retro has turned out a safe and profitable venture for majority business. However few overseas regions like North America i.e. USA and Canada faced losses with Retro‘s release this month.

Retro‘s Rs. 235 Cr gross is inclusive of non-theatrical revenue from OTT, satellite, and audio rights. Given the number, the estimated Retrobox-office collection stands between Rs. 110-Rs. 120 Cr.

Retro is written and directed by Karthik Subbaraj, with Pooja Hegde playing female lead, and Santhosh Narayanan for music. The film will make its digital premiere on the Netflix streaming platform.
