ISL 2024-25: East Bengal aims for victory against beleaguered city-rival Mohammedan Sporting
East Bengal will be looking to regain its winning form when it faces city rival Mohammedan Sporting FC in a bottom-of-the-table clash of Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25, at the Salt Lake Stadium here on Sunday.
The Red and Gold Brigade are currently placed 11th in the 13-team table with 18 points from 19 matches. It is 13 points adrift of the last team in the play-off bracket, which currently is the sixth placed Mumbai City FC with 31 points from 20 matches.
With only five matches at disposal, the play-off chances (top-six finish) seems to be over for Kolkata-based club, which joined the league four seasons ago.
Having lost its previous match against a resurgent Chennaiyin FC at the same venue, the immediate goal for Oscar Bruzon’s team will be trying to improve its position in the standings.
It will fancy its chances against Mohammedan Sporting, which is at the bottom of the table with just 11 points from 19 matches. With its head coach Andrey Chernyshov quitting his job over non-payment of salary and many of the players complaining of similar predicament, Mohammedan Sporting appears to be in total disarray and is unlikely to compete against its city rivals.
