Gujarat Giants vs Mumbai Indians Highlights, WPL 2025: MI beats GG by five wickets, opens account

FOUR! Sajana almost hits a one-handed shot over the covers and finishes the match with 23 balls to spare! Mumbai Indians open its account in the 2025 WPL.

Priya bowling out. Second ball, and Sajana smacks a high full toss for a FOUR! And Sciver-Brunt comes down the track and sends it for a FOUR down the ground. But next ball, the English batter plays it onto her stumps to end an incredible innings.

Sciver-Brunt 57 (39) b Priya

G Kamalini first ball and she cuts it for a FOUR! Great start from the youngster!

Kashvee sends Kerr back with the first ball of her third over as the Kiwi player tries to scoop but misses it to get out lbw.

Kerr 19 (20) lbw Kashvee

While we expected youngster G Kamalini to come out to the middle, it is Sajana Sajeevan who has come out.

Sciver-Brunt can’t be stopped! Gardner returns to the attack and she is welcomed by a deft reverse-sweep which races to fine third man for a FOUR! Fifty up! Sciver-Brunt sweeps to beat the short fine leg for another FOUR!

Priya with her third and she is smacked for a SIX by Kerr! Next ball, Kerr sweeps again but Kashvee does well in the deep to save two runs. Kerr finds the boundary for another FOUR as she finds the gap between two fielders over at the deep mid-wicket and deep square leg region.

Dottin bowling her third over. Slower ball, and Sciver-Brunt easily almost half-sweeps it towards deep backward square leg for a FOUR!

Tanuja with her third over. Kerr watches the ball and sends it to the longest part of ground for a two. FOUR! Sciver-Brunt sends the ball square of leg to the boundary.

Kashvee continues. A slower ball which forces Kerr to wait for the ball to come onto the bat, but only a single off it. Just the two runs off it.

Priya with her second over. Sciver-Brunt turns and sends the ball through square leg for a FOUR! Apart from that boundary, some tight bowling from the leggie.

Kashvee Gautam with her first over, and Sciver-Brunt scoops the ball over the short fine leg fielder for a FOUR! And Harmanpreet gets off the mark with a FOUR! The ball is outside off stump and the MI skipper just has to guide it. OUT! Harmanpreet walks back after Kashvee gets the skipper lbw. Sciver-Brunt has a word with her but Harmanrpreet decides to walk back.

Harmanpreet 4 (2) lbw Kashvee

Priya Mishra, the star of Giants’ last match, with her first over. What was that! Kashvee Gautam fails to judge the ball at deep square leg and she lets it go for a FOUR! Once again, Sciver-Brunt smacks the ball hard and sends it hurtling to deep square leg and Kashvee once again fails to stop it. Gardner takes the review as Priya seems to have trapped Yastika lbw. It’s pitching outside leg stump so Yastika survives. But she’s removed on the next ball! Yastika holes out to Wolvaardt!

Yastika 8 (10) c Wolvaardt b Priya

Gardner bowling the final over of the PowerPlay. One bounce and over the fence for a FOUR as Yastika sends it to long on.

Dottin with her second over. ‘SMACK,’ says Sciver-Brunt’s bat as she sends the ball through point for a FOUR! A review was taken at the last ball for a possible run out but Yastika was safe in her crease as the ball lightly touched Dottin’s fingers and castles the stumps off Sciver-Brunt’s shot.

Tanuja with her second over and she bowls a full toss to Matthews, who steps out accordlingly, and sends it for a FOUR across over square leg. Beautiful shot as Matthews makes space to unleash a perfect cover drive. Next ball, and OUT! Matthews tries to beat the square leg once again but Harleen Deol is there to take it! Huge wicket!

Matthews 17 (19) c Harleen b Tanuja

Nat Sciver-Brunt enters the crease and flicks it for a FOUR to get off the mark!

Deandra Dottin brought into the attack. A huge wide ball to start with. Very cautious batting from the openers, perhaps they don’t want to get out cheaply. Dottin seemed sure that she’d caught her compatriot Matthews lbw, but Gardner didn’t seemed too convinced. Another over without a boundary.

Tanuja Kanwer spinning the ball from the other end. The left-arm tweaker is making it hard for the batters to middle the ball. Just the three runs off the over.

Hayley Matthews and Yastika Bhatia opening for MI. Ashleigh Gardner in the first over. Second ball, and Matthews slogs it over the short backward square leg fielder for a FOUR! Dottin almost takes a stunner as she stops Matthews slash through point.

Amanjot given the ball for the final over. And Sayali sends the full toss between the two fielders over at short third and short backward point for a FOUR! Couple of singles to follow. A hapless Gardner looks on. FOUR! A wider ball and Sayali smacks it through point for a boundary. A run out on the last ball as the tail-enders take GG to a lowly score of 120.

Sciver-Brunt bowling out. Can she get that last wicket? Direct hit was needed there as Harmanpreet takes a second to tee up the throw but the batters take the single.

Kerr bowling out. And first ball, Tanuja holes out to Sanskriti.

Tanuja 13 (12) c Sanskriti b Kerr

Priya Mishra the last batter for GG. That would have been a run out if Kerr collected that ball, but Priya stays on.

Amanjot Kaur has been handed the ball for her first over. Great slash by Tanuja as she sends the ball towards long off for a FOUR! OUT! Harleen tries to clear the ropes over at the leg side but Matthews takes the catch!

Harleen 32 (31) c Matthew b Amanjot

Sayali Satghare joins Tanuja in the middle. A dot to finish the over.

Matthews bowling out. Great reverse-sweep from Tanuja to send it over the slip fielder and to third man for a FOUR! Nine runs from the over. Harleen keeps strike.

Sciver-Brunt with her third over. Lucky shot there as Harleen tries to play a fuller length delivery and sends it fine for a FOUR between the legs of the ‘keeper.

Matthews with her third over. Huge shout for an edge off Simran’s bat but no review taken. Next ball, Simran sends it towards cow corner and Kerr is there to take the catch.

Simran Shaikh 3 (8) c Kerr b Matthews

Tanuja Kanwer comes in to bat.

Kerr with the ball. Harleen sweeps well and finds a much-needed boundary towards deep square leg for a FOUR! Found the gap! Harleen sends the ball in that deep mid-wicket region as Sciver-Brunt fails to stop the ball going for a FOUR!

Matthews with her second over. OUT! Kashvee tries to sweep but gets an edge instead and Yastika takes the catch behind. A cameo from the pacer comes to an end.

Kashvee 20 (15) c Yastika b Matthews

Simran Shaikh comes out to bat. DROPPED! Kerr fails to take the catch this time in a very similar situation as Simran stays on.

Ismail bowling out. SIX! Kashve hits Ismail for a massive maximum over long on, and she has a mini-celebration with herself as well! Seven runs off it, Ismail bowls all her four overs.

Kashvee makes space for herself and cuts it through backward point for a FOUR! Parunika with her second over. A wide ball from the youngster, bowling it down the leg stump by some distance. Next ball, Kashvee slog sweeps it over the short fine leg fielder for a FOUR!

Kerr with the ball, and she might just have gotten Dottin stumped! Umpire goes upstairs. And the Windies batter is way out of her crease and she has to walk back!

Dottin 7 (6) st Yastika b Kerr

A strategic timeout has been taken. Kashvee Gautam out in the middle. The pacer is off the mark with a single. Harleen, the only batter remaining for GG, takes strike.

Parunika Sisodia given her first over. First ball from the left-arm spinner is to Dottin’s leg stump as the batter flicks it for a single. Next ball, a dot. Slog sweep from Harleen towards deep square leg as the ball bounces once and goes for FOUR!

Kerr with her first over. First ball for Dottin and she fails to middle the ball. Innovative from the experienced batter as she reverse-sweeps Kerr to third man for a FOUR!

Sciver-Brunt with her second over. After two dots, Harleen goes for a risky single but makes her ground as the fielder fails to get the stumps. SIX! Gardner slightly steps out of her crease and smacks a shorter ball over the ropes! OUT! The GG skipper tries to clear the ropes once again but she fails to get the distance. Sajana takes another catch!

Gardner 10 (10) c Sajana b Sciver-Brunt

Ismail continues with her third over. Some great bowling from the experienced South African pacer to cramp the batters for space. Skipper Gardner opens her account as she slashes the ball towards third man for a FOUR! The fielder there dives but the attempt goes in vain. Review taken as the MI players think there was a slight edge off Gardner’s bat for a catch to Yastika Bhatia behind the stumps. Extremely close, but not bat involved. Gardner stays on.

Hayley Matthews is brought into the attack. Hemalatha flicks the full-tossed ball towards the deep square leg region but Amelia Kerr does well to stop the ball from touching the ropes. Just two taken from that. OUT! Hemalatha’s eyes light up and she goes big but there’s only height on that. Kerr runs all the way from that deep mid-wicket region to take the catch!

Hemalatha 9 (11) c Kerr b Matthews

Harleen Deol in at the crease. Two fresh batters in the middle. Just two runs from it.

Ismail continues. Couple of dots to begin with. Leg bye there as the ball is sent to fine leg for a single. OUT! Wolvaardt swings big but doesn’t get the distance. The ball sails over and falls into the hands of Sajeevan Sajana over at deep extra cover.

Wolvaardt 4 (7) c Sajana b Ismail

Ashleigh Gardner, the skipper, comes out to the middle hoping to take GG out of this slump.

Nat Sciver-Brunt with the ball. Mooney to face her. OUT! Mooney steps out to send it over backward point but fails to clear the fielders. The edge helps as the short backward point fielder takes it.

Mooney 1 (3) c Sanskriti Gupta b Sciver-Brunt

Dayalan Hemalatha the newest batter at the crease. Deftly put away by Hemalatha as she guides the ball past the short third man fielder for a FOUR!

Laura Wolvaardt and Beth Mooney open for GG, as they have been doing for the past two matches. Opening the bowling for MI is Shabnim Ismail. First ball, and a quick single from Mooney as she pushes it to short mid-off. Wolvaardt tries to push it through the covers but Harmanpreet Kaur does well to stop the ball. NO BALL! That’s a free hit for the South African. Perhaps a gift from a compatriot? A mistimed shot off a shorter ball sends the ball to mid on, but just a dot. Chance wasted by Wolvaardt. Misfield! The Proteas skipper smacks it towards mid on but the debutant Parunika lets it go between the legs for a FOUR!

Both G Kamalini and Parunika Sisodia were important cogs in the ruthless machine that was India in its recently concluded U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup triumph. While Gamalini ended the tournament with 143 runs, and found a place in the ‘Team of the Tournament, Parunika finished the competition with 10 wickets.

Mumbai Indians wins the toss and elects to bowl first.

G Kamalini comes in for Jintimani Kalita while Parunika Sisodia comes in for Saika Ishaque for MI. Unchanged playing XI for GG.

G Kamalini, an integral part of India’s U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup, will be debuting for Mumbai Indians tonight. Parunika Sisodia has also been handed her first cap.

It’s pitch No. 5 tonight.

“It’s a bit cold which means there might be moisture on the pitch. There could be something for the bowlers, some movement for them,” Stacey Ann King says.

It looks like it’s one of those pitches where batting second will be slightly better.
