UP Warriorz vs Delhi Capitals Highlights, WPL 2025: Sutherland, Kapp star as DC beats UPW by seven wickets
McGrath to bowl the final over. Just a single to start, Sutherland on strike now. FOUR! Utter confusion and lack of communication over at deep mid-wicket region between Alana King and Grace Harris as Sutherland gets the boundary. Another FOUR to follow! Two runs from three balls now. A single; one run from two balls. WHAT WAS THAT!?!? McGrath fails to collect the ball and run out Kapp as the South African makes her ground to help DC beat UPW by seven wickets!
Deepti with the ball. First ball, and sent for a FOUR by Kapp, played to fine leg! Great running as the batters take two. A single to follow. DROPPED Kapp has been dropped by Alana King, a substitute fielder. Eleven needed from the final over.
Ecclestone bowling out. Kapp hits a FOUR down the ground, over the mid on fielder! Another FOUR! Kapp this time goes over mid off and beats the long off fielder.
Harris back into the attack. First ball, and two runs taken by the batters after Ecclestone does well to save a couple of runs. Seven off it.
McGrath with the ball. DROPPED! Sutherland plays a slightly shorter ball and sends it high in the air. Ecclestone at mid off comes underneath it and fails to catch it. FOUR! Kapp swivels around and sends the ball to fine leg for a boundary!
Grace Harris bowling her first over. OUT! Huge wicket as Harris castles Lanning stumps as the batter tries to move too much to the off side, thereby exposing the wickets.
Lanning 69 (49) b Harris
Marizanne Kapp in at the middle.
Ecclestone with her third over. Just six off it, match going down to the wire it seems.
Easy peasy there from Sutherland! Deepti with the ball and she is hit for a FOUR by the Australian through the cover region. Eight runs from it.
Henry brought back into the attack. Well bowled by the West Indies player, just a couple of singles so far. And just as we said that, Henry bowls a wide. FOUR! A slightly pitched up ball and Lanning sends it sailing over the mid off fielder. A couple of runs to end the over.
Rajeshwari with her second over. Wider ball there and Lanning slashes it through point for a FOUR and brings up her first fifty of the season! Lucky edge there as her slash races to fine third man for another FOUR.
Tahlia McGrath comes in and bowls a shorter ball to Sutherland, who easily pulls for a FOUR! Just a few more singles, but DC maintaining that eight-run run rate.
Deepti continues. Just the two off it, with the India all-rounder shooting a mild warning to Lanning and telling her to not step out of her crease at the non-striker’s end.
Sophie Ecclestone brought back into the attack. OUT! Jemimah tries to sweep and but gets the top edge to hole out to short fine leg. She walks back for a duck!
Jemimah Rodrigues 0 (2) c Rajeshwari b Ecclestone
What was that, Chinelle? Deepti Sharma with her first over, Shafali hits it toward’s deep mid-wicket but Henry fails to take the catch. The India international stays on. Will this be a costly miss? Lanning continues with her fine shot-making after she plays it late for a FOUR through third man. GONE! Henry doesn’t let the ball slip from her hands this time as Shafali holes out to the West Indies player in a similar region as that dropped catch.
Shafali 26 (16) c Henry b Deepti
Henry with her second over. Couple of dots and some running between the wickets from the batters. Another FOUR from Lanning before taking a two to end the PowerPlay strong.
Kranti with her second over. She bowls it slightly short to Shafali and the batter smashes it to deep mid-wicket for a FOUR! Lanning showing her class there, waiting for the ball and playing it late to beat the short third man fielder with a slash for a FOUR!
Chinelle Henry now with the ball. Can she get UPW its first breakthrough? A fuller delivery and Lanning flicks it well towards backward square leg for a FOUR! Another flick, this time past the short mid-wicket fielder to score another FOUR!
Rajeshwari brought into the attack, and Shafali welcomes her with a FOUR slashed through extra cover. Lanning joins in the hitting as she drives it over the cover fielders for a FOUR!
Sophie Ecclestone with the ball and Lanning cuts it past the short third man fielder. Lazy effort there from Rajeshwari Gayakwad to stop the FOUR. The former Australia skipper once again drives it through that gap between point and short third man fielders for another FOUR!
Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning at the crease. Kranti Goud with the first over. FOUR! Shafali cuts it through backward point for a boundary, and she follows it up with a SIX over covers!
And that’s the end of a superb innings by Sehrawat! Kapp bowls a slower one and the batter tries to go long. However, the ball goes up in the air and nestles into the safe hands of Jemimah.
Shweta Sehrawat 37 (33) c Jemimah b Kapp
Sophie Ecclestone in and she misses the ball. Next ball, she sends it to cow corner for a single. Henry on strike now. Just a couple of singles. Last ball. Will Henry go big? She doesn’t. A run out on the last ball as Ecclestone is the one to be removed. A fighting total, though!
Great hitting from Shweta and she pulls it for a FOUR to deep square leg! Arundhati with her third over. Few good deliveries, right at the blockhole region to limit the batters to a single. Lackadaisical from Sutherland there as she lets the ball go through her hands for a FOUR.
Jonassen with her third over. A starkly different over this as only three runs conceded, a welcome respite for Lanning.
Shikha comes back into the attack. SIX! The pacer bowls a slower full toss and Henry sends it over long on for a maximum. Similar ball, this time outside the off stump, and Henry hits another SIX, this time over the covers! The Windies player follows it up with a FOUR through backward point! SIX! A really high full toss and Henry hacks it towards square leg for a maximum! Arundhati tries a diving effort but it goes to vain as she spills the ball over the ropes. 23 runs off the over!
Debutant Chinelle Henry at the crease as Minnu bowls her second over. Shweta hits it down the ground for a FOUR as both Sutherland and Arundhati let the ball cross the boundary. After bowling a few dots to the West Indies all-rounder, Minnu is hit for a FOUR by Henry.
Arundhati returns with the ball. SIX! Shweta pulls it over deep mid-wicket for her maximum. That’s a wide from the young Indian pacer, bowling it way outside the off stump. OUT! Harris tries to go down the ground but instead of distance, she gets height. Shafali with another catch in this match.
Harris 12 (14) c Shafali b Arundhati
Jonassen with her third over. Beautifully touched away to fine third man for a FOUR by Shweta there.
Harris opens the lid and lets the pressure go with a smack down the ground for a FOUR off Sutherland. Shweta adds another FOUR to this over after she pulls it towards that cow corner/deep mid-wicket region for a boundary.
Kapp returns for another spell. More than two overs since the ball crossed the boundary ropes. Great over from the South African after having those expensive first two overs. Just four singles from this.
Sutherland with her third over. With her two wickets, she has conceded just 10 runs. Just four runs off it.
Minnu Mani into the attack. First ball, and Deepti sweeps well to square leg for a FOUR! CLOSE! Deepti tries to swing big but catches air. Bryce stumps the UPW skipper but she may have made her crease. NO SHE’S NOT! Deepti Sharma has to walk back!
Deepti Sharma 7 (7) st Bryce b Minnu
Grace Harris is the newest batter in the middle.
Jonassesn with her second over. OUT! Tahlia McGrath steps out of her crease to drive it on the off side but misses the ball. Sarah Bryce quickly dislodges the bails, lighting up the stumps and also the Delhi Capitals dugout!
McGrath 1 (6) st Bryce b Jonassen
Shweta Sehrawat in at the crease.
OUT! Sutherland strikes again as she bowls a shorter one and Kiran falls into that trap. The batter tries to play it across and the ball comes off the edge and nestles into Shafali Verma’s hands over at deep backward square leg.
Kiran Navgire 51 (27) c Shafali b Sutherland
Arundhati Reddy brought into the attack. The pacer has stopped Kiran’s straight shots once with her foot and now with her hand. A quickfire half-century is notched up by Kiran after she finds that gap there at deep extra cover, past Shafali Verma!
Annabel Sutherland handed the ball for her first over. Kiran once again pulls a shorter one but the batter only sends it high up. However, no fielder comes below it. Vrinda, then, goes and sends it straight down the ground for a FOUR! Great use of the feet and catching the ball with the middle of her bat. OUT! Vrinda tries to get a maximum to her name but fails to get the distance, especially when the ball wasn’t hit well.
Vrinda Dinesh 16 (15) c Jemimah Rodrigues b Annabel Sutherland
SIX! Shikha Pandey returns only to be hit down the ground for a maximum! Full toss dealt accordingly by Kiran! Another full toss, and the batter smacks it through the covers but only a single.

With a hip swivel, the batter sends it over square leg.
Shikha Pandey with her first over. First ball, and the swing takes the ball down the leg stump for a wide. Kiran with a sublime cover drive as she makes space for herself and plays it with the swing for a FOUR! Another shot over mid off as Kiran stands and delivers another FOUR! Leg byes there as Vrinda sends it fine for a FOUR!
Kiran Navgire and Vrinda Dinesh opening for UP Warriorz. Marizanne Kapp with the ball in the first over. And Kiran is off and running! A good length ball and the batter smashes it to square leg for a FOUR! Next ball, slightly wide of the off stump and Kiran swings it down the ground for another FOUR! Kapp bowls a slower one and Kiran is not able to middle it properly. A dot ball. Kiran punches it once again towards square leg but a fielder is there to concede just a single. Vrinda Dinesh faces her first ball and it’s just a single for her. Kiran pulls a shorter one and gets a top edge. Thankfully for her, it falls in no man’s land.
Delhi Capitals wins the toss and elects to bowl first.
Niki Prasad comes in for Radha Yadav, Meg Lanning says. Two changes for UPW as Alana King and Saima Thakor sit out for Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Chinelle Henry.
It’s Pitch No. 4 once again, the strip that saw more than 400 runs being scored on opening day of WPL 2025. The shortest boundary is just 49m, and the longest being 70m down the ground.
“I don’t think we’re going to see that (200 runs on opening day) again today, but it’s still very firm,” Stacey Ann King says.
“The colour is more brown, not as fresh. But the batters can still get value for their shots,” Mithali Raj says.
