IND vs BAN: Mohammed Shami overtakes Zaheer Khan for most wickets for India in ICC ODI events
India pacer Mohammed Shami on Thursday became India’s leading wicket-taker in 50-over ICC events during the side’s Champions Trophy 2025 match against Bangladesh in Dubai.
Shami took five wickets against Bangladesh to take his tally to 60 wickets, overtaking Zaheer Khan. The left-armer had hauled 59 wickets in 32 innings while Shami crossed the mark in just his 19th innings.
Interestingly, this was Shami’s first match in an ICC Champions Trophy. He has 55 wickets in ODI World Cups across three editions, with 24 coming in the 2023 edition. The pacer also became the fastest bowler (in terms of deliveries bowled) to complete 200 ODI wickets.
The 34-year-old Shami, who claimed his sixth ODI fifer, also has the most five-wicket hauls for India in the format. The next best by an Indian bowler is three five-wicket hauls, by Javagal Srinath and Harbhajan Singh.
Shami ended his quota of 10 overs with five for 53 as Bangladesh managed 228 runs in 49.4 overs.
