ISL 2024-25: How can Mohun Bagan SG win the League Shield in its next match against Odisha FC?

Defending League Shield champion Mohun Bagan Super Giant can retain its title in its next Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 fixture against Odisha FC at Salt Lake Stadium on Sunday.

The Kolkata club currently leads the ISL 2024-25 points table with 49 points from 21 matches. It has three games left in the league and a seven-point lead over its closest challenger, FC Goa.

If MBSG bags all three points against OFC at home, its tally will be 52 points from 22 games. On the other hand, even if Goa wins all of its remaining three matches its points tally will be only 51.

So, if Mohun Bagan wins against Odisha, it will successfully defend its League Shield title.

If it fails to get the win and settles for a draw against OFC then it will be on 50 points and will need at least two points from its last two matches to wrap up the championship.

Assuming that Jose Francisco Molina’s men get beaten by Odisha FC, they will need three points from its last two matches.

If MBSG fails to win its penultimate match away at Mumbai City FC, it will have to get all three points against FC Goa in its last league match.

In case of Mohun Bagan and FC Goa both end the season with 51 points, with Mariners’ final results are two draws (against Odisha FC and Mumbai City FC) and a loss to FC Goa, then Gaurs will win the League Shield based on its superior head-to-head record, having already defeated Mohun Bagan in their first meeting.
