Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi turned provider for two goals in the side’s opening Major League Soccer 2025 encounter against New York City FC at the Chase Stadium in Miami.
The Argentinian legend helped the home side take an early lead when he set up Tomas Aviles’s tap-in in the fifth minute of the game, following a smart one-two with Jordi Alba at the edge of the box, following a corner.
New York’s twin strikes in either half seemed to be pushing Miami to an opening weekend loss, but Messi’s late stoppage-time assist to Telasco Segovia meant the spoils were shared at the end.
