FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifiers: Messi not included in Scaloni’s 26-member Argentina squad for Uruguay and Brazil

Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni has announced a 26-man squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Brazil, with captain Lionel Messi missing out due to a low-grade injury in the adductor muscle.

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister is expected to lead the team in his absence.

Some of the bright young talents, who are not yet 21 — Nicolas Paz, Benjamin Dominguez and Santiago Castro — were included in the squad announced Monday.

Argentina leads the standings with 25 points after 12 matches. Uruguay has 20 and will host the World Cup winners at the Centenario Stadium in Montevideo on March 21. Four days later, the La Albiceleste will play Brazil at Buenos Aires’ Monumental Stadium.
