UEFA Nations League quarterfinals: Why is Florian Wirtz not playing for Germany vs Italy?

Italy and Germany will meet each other in the quarterfinal first leg of UEFA Nations League and German sensation Florian Wirtz will miss this fixture.

The 21-year-old was an integral part of Germany’s Euro 2024 run to the quarterfinals. The Bayer Leverkusen midfielder is considered as among the best young attackers in Europe. He has nine goals and 10 assists in the Bundesliga.

Wirtz hobbled off injured in Leverkusen’s 2-0 defeat to Werder Bremen in Bundesliga on March 8, and the Germany international is now set to miss the match against Italy.

The Germany club letter announced that Wirtz suffered from ankle ligament injury and was out for ‘several weeks’.
