Ishant Sharma handed one demerit point for IPL code breach against SRH

Gujarat Titans pacer Ishant Sharma has been fined 25 per cent of his match fee and handed a demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Sunday night’s game against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

“Ishant Sharma admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction,” the IPL said in a statement.

“For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” it added.

Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct pertains to the “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment, or fixtures and fittings during a match.”

Ishant endured a tough outing against SRH in Hyderabad, conceding 53 runs in his four wicketless overs. He was substituted after 13 overs of GT’s innings, with Sherfane Rutherford coming in as his replacement.

GT’s win against SRH was its third in four matches, propelling it to No. 2 on the points table. It was also its third consecutive victory after opening the season with a loss to Punjab Kings.
