ENG vs ZIM: Ollie Pope sets unique record during England vs Zimbabwe Test

England’s Ollie Pope registered a unique record as he brought up his eighth century during the one-off Test against Zimbabwe in Nottingham on Friday.

Pope became the first batter to score his first eight Test tons against different oppositions. He has previously struck hundreds against Ireland, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa, West Indies and New Zealand.

The No. 3 batter was dismissed for 171 off 166 balls, which included 24 fours and two sixes, as England put on a mammoth 565 for six declared on the second day of the four-day match.

The 27-year-old had scored his maiden Test century against South Africa—an unbeaten 135—in Gqeberha in 2020 after making his Test debut against India in 2018 at Lord’s.

His memorable 196 against in the first Test against India in Hyderabad in early 2024 was the cornerstone of England’s rare win in the subcontinent and is considered one of the greatest innings played by an Englishman overseas.

Since his debut in the longest format, Pope has been the third highest run-scorer for England, amassing 3301 runs in 56 matches at an average of 35.49.
