Amit Mishra announces retirement from all forms of cricket
Experienced Indian leg-spinner Amit Mishra announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Thursday, ending a career that spanned more than 25 years.
He last played for India in 2017, but the 42-year-old Haryana cricketer continued to feature in the Indian Premier League till the 2024 edition.
“Today, after 25 years, I announce my retirement from cricket — a game that has been my first love, my teacher, and my greatest source of joy,” Mishra said in a post on social media.
“From the struggles and sacrifices in the early days to the unforgettable moments on the field, every chapter has been an experience that has shaped me as a cricketer and as a person. As I close this chapter, my heart is full of gratitude and love. Cricket has given me everything, and now, I look forward to giving back to the game that made me who I am,” he added.
Mishra represented India in 22 Tests, 36 ODIs and 10 T20s. He was a classical leg-break bowler who made his Test debut against Australia in 2008. It was a successful debut for Mishra as he took a five-wicket haul in the first innings before picking a couple more in the second essay.
He racked up 535 wickets in a exemplary First-Class career while he collected 252 and 285 in List A and T20 cricket.
In the IPL alone, he took 166 wickets at an average of 23.98 and an economy rate of 7.36, representing four teams including Sunrisers Hyderabad, Deccan Chargers, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants.
He remains the only bowler to take three hat-tricks in the IPL
