AUS vs IND, 1st WODI: Schutt five-for powers Australia to crushing win against India in series opener

Australia recorded a comfortable five-wicket win against India in the first Women’s ODI between the two sides in Brisbane on Thursday.

The victory was set up by the Australian bowlers, who bundled out India for just 100 runs in the first innings. Australia then wrapped up the chase with more than 33 overs to spare.

Pacer Megan Schutt led the Australian bowling attack with her first ODI five-wicket haul as India crumbled after electing to bat.

Australia’s chase was turbocharged by a 29-ball 35 from opener Phoebe Litchfield. Her knock included a string of six consecutive fours across two overs, as the home team raced towards the target.

India found some momentum and struck back through Renuka Thakur, who took three wickets.

However, debutant opener Georgia Voll weathered the pressure to guide her side to an easy win with a classy, unbeaten 46 off 42 balls.
