Zimbabwe announces squad for Test series against Afghanistan; Ben Curran among seven uncapped players named in line-up
Zimbabwe announced its squad for the two-match Test series at home against Afghanistan, which begins from December 26.
As many as seven uncapped players were named in the 17-member squad, which will be led by veteran Craig Ervine. The uncapped players in the squad are opening batter Ben Curran, middle-order batter Johnathan Campbell, wicketkeeper-batters Tadiwanashe Marumani and Nyasha Mayavo, pace bowlers Trevor Gwandu, Takudzwa Chataira and Newman Nyamhuri.
The series will mark a significant moment for cricket in Zimbabwe as the nation will host its first Boxing Day Test in 28 years and its first ever New Year’s Test.
The first Test will be played from December 26 at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, while the New Year’s Test will take place from January 2 next year.
Zimbabwe last featured in a Boxing Day Test at home in 1996 against England. Since then, Zimbabwe has only participated in Boxing Day Tests abroad, facing New Zealand in 2000 and South Africa in 2017.
