Afghanistan pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi fined for dissent
Afghanistan pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi on Friday was fined 15 per cent match fee for dissent during the side’s second One-Day International against Zimbabwe in Harare.
“Farooqi was fined for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct,” the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Thursday.
“The violation falls under Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which addresses ‘showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match,’” the release added.
Farooqi was also handed one demerit point. The incident occurred in the fifth over of Zimbabwe’s innings, when the left-arm pacer requested for the Decision Review System (DRS) for an LBW appeal against Craig Ervine when DRS was not available for the match.
Fazalhaq admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Andy Pycroft.
