Southampton appoints Ivan Juric as manager

Former Croatia international Ivan Juric has been appointed as Southampton’s new first team manager, the club announced on Saturday.

He comes in as the replacement for Russell Martin, who was sacked after the side was thrashed 0-5 by Tottenham Hotspur.

“I want us to be more aggressive, to do much more pressing and we have to be quick to change mentality because this is my idea of football,” Juric said after being appointed.

The 49-year-old has so far coached in Italy, having been with clubs like Mantova, Crotone, Genoa, Hellas Verona, and Torino. Most recently, he was with Roma for less than three months, after which he was sacked by the Italian giant.

“I’m very pleased. I think it’s a really big challenge but I’m very optimistic because I saw a team that can do better.

It’s important to immediately be connected with the fans. I want an aggressive team and I think that fans of Southampton will like that,” the Croat added.

Currently, the side is languishing at the bottom of the table with just five points from 16 matches and one win so far this season.
