Suriya 44 titled after a Rajinikanth film?
Ever since it was announced that the title of Suriya 44 will be unveiled on Christmas, rumours of what the title actually is has started cropping up in the Tamil film circles. After buzz of ‘Cult’ being the title, word now has it that Suriya 44 has been titled Johnny after the 1980 Rajinikanth, Sridevi movie.
Interestingly, Suriya is referred to as ‘the one’ in Suriya 44, and the glimpse revealed of Suriya’s look in the movie does seem to channel the 80s. Suriya 44 writer, director, and co-producer Karthik Subbaraj is a self-admitted die-hard Rajinikanth fan, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if his film is indeed titled after a Rajinikanth movie.
It is worth mentioning here that the official Tamil remake of Hindi film Johnny Gaddar (2007), an unofficial adaptation of the French film Symphonie Pour Un Massacre (1963)/ book Les Mystifies (1962), is also titled Johnny (2018).
