Senior Women’s One Day Trophy 2024: Gujarat Giants’ Simran Shaikh leads Mumbai to Super Over-win against Delhi in quarterfinals

Simran Shaikh, the most expensive pick in Women’s Premier League 2025 Auction, smashed 22 runs off five balls in the Super Over to help Mumbai beat Delhi in a thrilling Senior Women’s One Day Trophy quarterfinal in Rajkot on Tuesday.

All-rounder Simran, picked by the Gujarat Giants for Rs 1.90 crore, hit two sixes and two fours as Mumbai chased down the target of 18 in the Super Over after the match had ended in a tie.

Mumbai put up 321-7, featuring opener Vrushali Bhagat’s 124-ball 134. Ayushi Soni (97 not out) and Laxmi Yadav (92) helped 2011-12 champion Delhi recover from 68-3 with a fourth-wicket stand of 158. After Yadav’s dismissal, Nazma (62) joined Soni in the middle and led her team to within seven runs of the victory before being run out on the last ball of the penultimate over.

Delhi, requiring seven runs off the final over, could only manage six singles, sending the match into a Super Over.

For Delhi, Shweta Sehrawat and Nazma scored 17 runs off Sayali Satghare. Then, given the responsibility with the ball, Nazma began by conceding a single to Mumbai skipper Humairaa Kaazi. Simran hit two consecutive fours, then took a couple before finishing the match with two straight sixes.

Four-time defending champion Railways defeated Maharashtra by three wickets in the other quarterfinal.

Maharashtra managed to post a competitive score of 254 courtesy useful contributions from Mukta Magre (54) and skipper Anuja Patil (50), and a blistering knock of 25-ball 64 from Kiran Navgire. The right-handed Navgire hit eight sixes during her innings.

Mona Meshram (74) and Simran Bahadur (51) brought Railways back into the match with a 103-run partnership after the team had been reduced to 99-4. Quick cameos from captain Sneh Rana (34) and Anjali Sarvani (12 not out) took their team over the line with two balls remaining.

Railways will face Bengal while Mumbai will take on Madhya Pradesh in the semifinals on Friday.
