SA vs PAK: Corbin Bosch becomes fifth South African to pick wicket off first ball of Test career
Right-arm pacer Corbin Bosch became the fifth South African bowler to take a wicket off the first ball of his Test career on the opening day of the first Test against Pakistan on Thursday.
Bosch removed Pakistan skipper Shan Masood in the 15th over of the innings to achieve the feat. The 30-year-old’s length delivery outside off-stump went off Masood’s outside edge and was taken in the slip cordon by Marco Jansen.
Interestingly, the last player to take a wicket off the first ball of his Test career was also a South African – right-arm pacer Tshepo Moreki – who dismissed New Zealand’s Devon Conway at Mount Maunganui earlier this year.
Right-arm pacer Hardus Viljoen, off-spinner Dane Piedt and Bert Vogler are the other South Africans to have recorded the feat.
Overall, 25 players have taken a wicket with the first ball of their Test career. The only Indian on the list is left-arm spinner Nilesh Kulkarni, who had dismissed Marvan Atapattu in Colombo in 1997.
