Rohit Sharma opts out of fifth Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Sydney: reports
India skipper Rohit Sharma has opted out of the fifth Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test match, which begins from Friday at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), according to a report in
In Rohit’s absence, pace ace Jasprit Bumrah is likely to take on the captaincy mantle. Bumrah had led the team to an emphatic 295-run win in the series opener at Perth when Rohit was on paternity leave.
Rohit has been struggling with form, averaging just 10.93 over his last nine Tests and a mere 6.2 in this series. He arrived late to India’s optional training session on Thursday and did not practise with the same intensity as his teammates at the SCG.
The uncertainty surrounding his inclusion was evident when, on Thursday, head coach Gautam Gambhir declined to confirm whether Rohit would feature in the team for the final match.
