Kolkata derby in ISL 2024-25: Mohun Bagan vs East Bengal likely to be shifted to Guwahati

The Kolkata derby between Mohun Bagan Super Giant and East Bengal in the Indian Super League (ISL) is likely to be played at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on January 11, instead of the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.

The Bidhhannagar Police Commission had previously said that hosting the match at the designated venue—in Kolkata—would be difficult due to a lack of adequate security amidst the Gangasagar Mela scheduled to take place in West Bengal from January 10 to 18.

As a result, the fate of the derby remained nebulous.

However, Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL), which runs the ISL, wanted to stick to the date and explore options outside Kolkata.

Sportstar understands that Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar and the IG Stadium in Guwahati were shortlisted with the latter gaining preference in a meeting on January 6.

The clubs, however, are yet to be informed about the decision.
