Malaysia Open 2025: Treesa, Gayatri ease past Thai pair to enter Round of 16
Indian women’s doubles pair Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand brushed past Thailand’s Ornnicha Jongsathapornparn and Sukitta Suwachai in the opening round of the Malaysia Open on Tuesday.
The sixth seed duo of Treesa-Jolly won 21-10, 21-10 in dominating fashion to enter the Round of 16. It will either face China’s Yi Fan Jia-Shu Xian Zhang or Malaysia’s Pei Kee Go-Mei Xing Teoh.
While the first game was quickly wrapped up by the Indians, who were the only representative from the country at the 2024 BWF World Tour Finals, they were in a spot of trouble at the break of the second game.
However, the gulf in quality began to widen quite soon with Treesa-Jolly ensuring its advancement to the next round of this Super 1000 event on the tour.
The other Indians in action later in the day include HS Prannoy, Lakshya Sen, Priyanshu Rajawat, Anupama Upadhyaya, and Aakarshi Kashyap.
