The Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara and the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow are likely to host the Women’s Premier League (WPL) fixtures in February.
While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to formally inform the five franchises about the venue and the schedule of the tournament, Sportstar understands that the third edition of the league is likely to begin on the 6th or 7th of next month.
Like last year, the tournament will be held in a caravan format – Lucknow hosting the first leg, followed by Vadodara, which also will host the final, expected to be played on March 9.
The Kotambi Stadium, which is 20 kilometres away from Vadodara city, recently hosted its maiden international fixture with the India women’s team featuring in a three-match ODI series against the West Indies.
It will also host the knockout stage of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, commencing later this week. Sources have confirmed that the BCCI has had discussions with the officials of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association and the Baroda Cricket Association over the last few days and the fixture is likely to be released by next week.
“Since there will be 23 games, it will be held in two venues. The idea is to spread the game across the country,” a Board insider said.
In 2023, Mumbai and Navi Mumbai hosted the entire tournament, whereas Bengaluru and New Delhi were the hosts last year.
