Despite the multiple misses from Mbappe, he will be happy to finish the match as the winner as Real Madrid closes gap with leader Barcelona in the league.

Rodrygo runs at defenders, dropping his shoulders, but perhaps he takes too many touches before taking a shot, which is blocked by the men in blue.

This time is Coba who gets a shot away after a few step-overs but Courtois sees the ball come towards him all the way.

Diaz plays it to Mbappe, who scoops it up to send it back to the midfielder, who tries to dink it over the ‘keeper but sends it over the goal.

It looks like Mbappe’s shot is blocked by Berrocal’s hand, the referee points to the spot. However, a pitchside review by him reveals that it was the defender’s shin that blocked the Frenchman’s attempt.

Getafe too made a change ahead of the second half with Nyom coming off for Coba and Arambarri making way for Uche.

Milla sees yellow for fouling Rodrygo.

Real Madrid will look to kill the game with a few more goals as Getafe will try to claw back.

The host goes into the break with it sat firmly on the driving seat, thanks to goals by Bellingham and Mbappe.

Garcia cuts it back to find Bellingham at the edge of the box as he tries to volley it but miscues it. The ball goes behind for a goal kick.

Bellingham racks up an assist as Mbappe receives it just outside the box. The Frenchman wraps his foot around the ball as it gets a touch from the upright and creeps in the net. With this, the forward is into double figures for the season in all competitions.

While the match reached a crescendo during that penalty incident and the resulting goal, it has returned to a simmering rate in these closing minutes before the break.

After a long check, the penalty is taken and Bellingham, with a hop, puts it down the middle to convert the penalty. Madrid with the lead.

Rudiger whips one inside the box and Bellingham rises to get at the end of it but the ‘keeper punches it away and gets a bit hurt in the process. He gets up fine to defend the resultant corner.

Valverde finds a running Mbappe who tries to dribble past his markers but is unable to do so.

Getafe tries to trouble Madrid with a corner but fails to find a blue shirt inside the box. The clearance falls to Juan Iglesias who tries to shot from afar but his attempt is comfortably collected by Courtois.

Lucas Vasquez tries to curl one past the opposition ‘keeper from the edge of the box but to no avail.

Rodrygo puts one inside the box from a freekick but is cleared behind for a corner. The corner also doesn’t bring anything for Real Madrid.

Nyom gets a yellow card for shoving and pushing inside the box during a Real Madrid corner. The corner is cleared away.

Mbappe now comes to the right side of the pitch, interplays with Rodrygo, who then finds Lucas on the right. He puts in a cross into the box but no white shirt is there to be at the end of it.

Rodrygo receives the ball well on the right-flank and darts into the box but goes down. The whole stadium erupts in protest for a penalty, but the referee doesn’t budge. A check is completed and the game goes on as it is.

The game flow hasn’t been quite smooth as players are committing to challenges, which could be a sign for the minutes to come.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side will be licking its wounds after a 2-0 Champions League defeat at Liverpool on Wednesday, which slowed the momentum it had built up after two big La Liga wins over Osasuna and Leganes.

Its injury crisis has also shown no signs of abating, with goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and defender Lucas Vazquez’s returns being offset by a hamstring injury to midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, who was substituted in the 56th minute at Anfield.

Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao are out with long-term injuries, while Vinicius Junior, Aurelien Tchouameni, Rodrygo and David Alaba all missed the trip to Liverpool.
