World Chess Championship 2024: Gukesh, Ding Liren play out draw in Round 7

India’s D Gukesh and China’s Ding Liren played out a draw in the seventh round of the FIDE World Chess Championship 2024 at the Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore on Tuesday.

Wielding the white pieces, Gukesh put Ding under pressure early with an out-of-the-box opening play – Neo-Grünfeld Defense.

Ding was soon forced into a time scramble, with the defending champion forced into a position where he had to make 20 moves in under 25 minutes to stay alive in the match.

But the Chinese Grand Master found a way to stay afloat as the game moved into the increment period, where he forced Gukesh into some difficult positions before the game tapered into a draw.
