Puranaanooru producer reacts to Sivakarthikeyan, Sudha Kongara clash rumours with Paruthiveeran gif

To the uninitated, Paruthiveeran (2007) is a famous Kollywood movie that marked the debut of actor Karthi in the Tamil film industry. Karthi’s unkempt thick beard in Paruthiveeran is both used as a callback to the film, and sometimes as a casual insult. That it would also become the cause for rumours surrounding a Sivakarthikeyan film, is probably something no one saw coming. 

Actor Sivakarthikeyan is teaming up with director Sudha Kongara on the revival of 1965 Puranaanooru, which was originally supposed to happen with Suriya, Dulquer Salmaan, and Nazriya Fahadh. Promo and look test of this movie took place on Tuesday, and as per MovieCrow’s sources Sudha Kongara asked Sivkarthikeyan to grow more beard for the look test images. 

However a now-deleted Tamil news article claimed that the look test of 1965 Puranaanooru came to a halt ,owing to a supposed clash between Sivakarthikeyan and Sudha Kongara. The article reported that Sudha Kongara had asked Sivakarthikeyan to grow his beard for the look test, and when he showed up, the filmmaker asked Sivakarthikeyan to trim it off, commenting that it gave ‘Paruthiveeran Karthi’. 

The report also suggested that Sivakarthikeyan left the shoot without saying anything post this exchange, and stopped responding to calls and texts. Dawn Pictures’ Akash Baskaran who is producing the Sivakarthikeyan, Sudha Kongara movie, quickly shut down these rumours. Taking to his official X handle, Akash Baskaran posted a gif of Paruthiveeran Karthi slapping an elder character from the movie, contextually putting a full stop to the false rumours. 

Puranaanooru which also stars Jayam Ravi, Atharvaa, Sreeleela among others is currently expected to be officially announced with a promo video. The movie has GV Prakash for music, and marks his 100th film.
