World Chess Championship 2024, Round 9: Gukesh fails to convert from White, plays sixth consecutive draw against Ding Liren

India’s D Gukesh and defending World Champion China’s Ding Liren played out a sixth consecutive draw in the FIDE World Chess Championship 2024 final in the ninth round at the Resort World Sentosa in Singapore on Thursday.

The championship series is still tied at 4.5-4.5 after the first nine rounds.

Gukesh, with white pieces played Catalan game against Ding.

In the Catalan Opening, White starts with central pawn push — d4, while Black advances the knight to f6. Gukesh and Ding followed the same line with the Indian playing theory moves in c4 and g3 while Ding replied with e6 and bishop to b4 in his second and third move respectively.
