IND vs SL, U-19 Asia Cup 2024: India beats Sri Lanka by 7 wickets, to face Bangladesh in final
India defeated Sri Lanka by seven wickets in the semifinals of the ACC Men’s U-19 Asia Cup in Sharjah on Friday, setting up the summit clash with Bangladesh.
Bangladesh also beat Pakistan by seven wickets in their semifinal in Dubai.
Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first but the decision seemed to be backfiring when it was reduced to three for eight. Sharujan Shanmuganathan (42) and Lakvin Abeysinghe (69) steadied the ship with a fourth-wicket stand of 93.
Once Ayush Mhatre removed Shanmuganathan, Sri Lanka failed to have any other substantial partnership and folded for 173 in the 47th over.
Chetan Sharma was the pick of the bowlers with the figures of three for 34.
India’s chase got off to the perfect start as Mhatre (34) and Vaibhav Suryavanshi (67) had an opening partnership of 91 runs. C Andre Siddarth, who came in at No. 3, scored 22.
Skipper Mohamed Amaan (25 not out) and KP Karthikeya (11 not out) took the team over the line with 170 balls remaining.
In the first semifinal, Bangladesh dismissed Pakistan for just 116 and completed the chase in the 23rd over.
The final between India and Bangladesh will be held in Dubai. The match is set to begin at 10:30AM IST.
