La Liga 2024-25: Teenager Diao scores late to secure draw for Real Betis against Barcelona
Substitute Assane Diao changed the script late to snatch a point for Real Betis at home against Barcelona in the La Liga 2024-25 as the match ended 2-2 at the Estadio Benito Villamarín in Seville on Saturday.
Robert Lewandowski, back in the starting line-up for the Catalans, scored his 16th league goal this season to put Barcelona ahead in the 39th minute.
Second half saw a more confident Betis get back on the pitch which was evident from the chances created by the host. It earned a penalty and Giovani Lo Celso made no mistake in converting the same.
Another substitute in Ferran Torres thought he had scored the match-winner for the Catalans when he smashed home Lamine Yamal’s through ball in the 82nd minute, but the 19-year-old Diao had other plans when he found the net with a deft flick late in the stoppage time.
This draw meant Barcelona continued at the top, five points ahead of rival Real Madrid which plays later in the day, and has another game in hand.
