F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2024: McLaren wins World Constructors’ Championship after 26 years
McLaren won the World Constructors’ Championship after 26 years on Sunday, at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the finale of the Formula One 2024 season.
Lando Norris won the race from pole position while Oscar Piastri finished 10th to win the coveted title for the first time since 1998, its ninth title overall.
The team had a 21-point lead over Ferrari heading into the weekend. Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc finished second and third, respectively but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
With six wins and 16 podiums this year, McLaren has been consistent, bagging double-digit points every weekend. While Piastri had a collision with Max Verstappen of Red Bull on the first corner, Norris led the charge from the beginning. McLaren scored points in each of the 24 races this season.
The Woking-based unit overtook defending champion Red Bull after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz capped Ferrari’s comeback season with five wins and 17 podium places as well but the McLaren temmates had the final say.
