Tennis Premier League 2024: Hyderabad Strikers beats Yash Mumbai Eagles to lift title

Harriet Dart and Vishnu Vardhan combined brilliantly in mixed doubles to make a decisive pathway to the title for Hyderabad Strikers against Yash Mumbai Eagles in the final of the sixth edition of Tennis Premier League (TPL) at the CCI in Mumbai on Sunday.

In front of the packed gathering, and with the scores even after the first two singles matches, when Harriet had won 14-11 against Zeynep Sonmez and Karan Singh had equalised for Mumbai with a 14-11 win over Benjamin Lock, the mixed doubles pair took it clear in favour of Hyderabad with a 16-9 win over Zeynep and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan.

Harriet and Vishnu had played an equally superb game to win the mixed doubles 15-10 in the semifinals against Cristina Dinu and Rohan Bopanna, that saw Hyderabad prevail 51-42 against Rajasthan Rangers.

Thereafter, the Hyderabad team needed 10 points from the last doubles match, and the pair of Benjamin and Vishnu reached 10-10 after leading 6-1, to pull the curtains down on the entertainment with a 51-44 triumph.

Interestingly, the Mumbai team had beaten Hyderabad 52-48 in the league stage, but the high intensity climax brought the best out of Harriet, Vishnu and Benjamin.

In the last edition in Pune, Vishnu Vardhan had played a key role in helping the Bengaluru team win the title. Vishnu proved the trump card yet again, this time for his home team of Hyderabad.
