SMAT 2024: Mohammed Shami registers his highest T20 score during Bengal vs Chandigarh
Indian pacer Mohammed Shami registered his highest T20 score, for Bengal during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 pre-quarters against Chandigarh in Bengaluru on Monday.
Coming in at No. 10, Shami smashed a 17-ball 32 to shore up Bengal’s first-innings foray. The 34-year-old cracked three fours and two sixes during his knock.
In the final over, bowled by Sandeep Sharma, Shami gathered 18 runs, with two hits over the fence.
Shami has been on a comeback trail following an injury which kept him out of cricket for more than a year. With India falling to a crushing 10-wicket win against Australia in the second Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Adelaide, calls for Shami’s reintegration into the Test fold has only gotten louder.
India captain Rohit Sharma addressed this chatter during a press conference on Sunday.
“The door is very much open. We are just monitoring him because he got some swelling in the knee while playing the Syed Mushtaq Ali which obviously hampers his preparation to play a Test match.
We don’t want to bring him here in a situation where he pulls up sore or something happens. We want to be more than 100 per cent sure with him because it’s been such a long time since he hasn’t played cricket,” Rohit said after the second Test.
