Premier League 2024-25: Wolves appoints Pereira as manager after sacking O’Neil
Wolverhampton Wanderers has appointed Vitor Pereira as the new head coach for an 18-month period, the Premier League club announced on Thursday.
Pereira’s appointment comes after the sacking of Gary O’Neil after a crushing 2-1 defeat at home against Ipswich Town. Wolves is currently under the threat of relegation, struggling at 19th position with only two wins in sixteen games.
“This is a challenging moment for the club, and we want to thank Vitor for taking on this responsibility. We have full confidence in his ability to guide us back on track, alongside the players and staff, and the entire club will be united in supporting him to achieve success,” Chairman Jeff Shi said.
The 56-year-old will take charge of the Wolves in the upcoming away game against Leicester City this weekend. He took the training at Compton Park for the first time on Thursday after departing from Saudi Pro League club Al Shabab.
This will be Pereira’s first time managing a Premier League side. He has previously held 13 managerial positions since beginning his coaching career in 2004 with Sanjoanensein. He has won league titles in Portugal, Greece, and China.
