IND-W vs WI-W: Smriti Mandhana breaks record for most international runs in a year in women’s cricket
India top-order batter Smriti Mandhana broke the record of most international runs in a year across formats in women’s cricket history during the first WODI against West Indies at the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium in Vadodara on Sunday.
Smriti overtook South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt, who had scored 1593 runs in 34 matches this year at an average of 51.38, including an unbeaten 184 against Sri Lanka in April.
She took 36 matches to get to the milestone, with her highest score this year being the 149 she scored against South Africa in the only Test in Chennai in June. India went on to register a 10-wicket win against the Proteas.
The 28-year-old will have two more opportunities to better this record as India has two more WODIs left to play against the West Indies in the coming days.
